The calculator gives indicative numbers. GetBanked does the actual assessment — which banks and licences will actually work for your vertical, jurisdiction, and volume.

Methodology & sources

The estimator is calibrated against actual placement durations across 500+ accounts. Numbers are P5 (best case), P50 (median), and P95 (worst case) in business days from pre-approval kick-off to operational account.

Vertical sets a base — licensed iGaming starts at 9 days, offshore Curaçao at 14, crypto in pre-licence stage at 20. UBO region adds 0–5 days (EU/UK is fastest, CIS is slowest). Volume adds 0–4 days (banks scrutinise large flows more). Lacking 3–6 months of processing history adds 3 days. Each prior rejection adds 2 days because new banks cross-reference declines. Note: regulated activities require a licence — banks will not onboard operators with no licensing plan, regardless of vertical.

The shorteners surface the highest-impact moves you can make right now. They are not magic — they are operational realities we have observed reduce timelines.

What the estimator does not capture: the specific bank's current queue depth, your actual KYC dossier quality, and surprises during UAT (e.g. an unexpected payment-rail mismatch). Use it to plan, not to commit.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it really take to open a high-risk bank account?
Median is 10 business days from pre-approval to operational account, but the realistic range is 5–25 business days depending on vertical, UBO region, volume, and prior rejections. The calculator gives you P5 / median / P95.
Why does my UBO region matter so much?
EU/UK UBOs go through standard KYC. CIS UBOs trigger automatic enhanced due diligence at most banks because of FATF and sanctions overlaps — adding ~5 days. MENA and Africa UBOs add 3–4 days. None of this is fair, but it is the correspondent-banking reality.
What is the single biggest accelerator?
Three to six months of clean processing statements. They cut ~3 days off the median because the bank can risk-score you instead of relying on declarations. If you do not have them, expect a slower cycle.
Will disclosing prior rejections slow me down?
No — the opposite. Concealing them and being caught at KYC ends the application. Disclosing them up-front with the reasons (and the fixes) is the fastest path. Banks talk to each other.
Is this calculator a guarantee?
No. It is calibrated against 500+ real placements and gives a realistic range. The actual time depends on your specific bank, current onboarding queue, and your KYC dossier quality. Use it for planning, not for forecasting.
